How To Wear Black Leggings-And Look Cute!

Outfit 1

My two favorite outfits consists of black leggings and, well…black leggings. I am throwing together my favorite cozy Saturday outfits together, a good Costco run outfit. Unless you’re one of those people who runs to Costco with your stilettos and blazers. If that suits you, thennnnn, well more power to ya! I’ll be going back for samples seconds. LOL

Outfit number 1. (above)

Carhart beanie paired with a slouchy torn and worn sweatshirt with Yeezy’s.

Outfit number 2. (below)

Everything is the same just substitute for a 3/4 plaid Northface zippy.

Outfit 2

When in doubt, both with either a black or white tee.

These outfits can go beyond fall and both sweatshirts layered with a white tee underneath lend themselves for a great tie around the waist look!

These outfits win the gold every. single. time. Simply because they require black leggings. Which, as previously stated, are my favorite reason to get dressed. These outfits are great for the kids soccer games, errands, a cute lunch in at your favorite home grown eatery. Please share your favorite black legging outfits!

Happy day friends!

4 Makeup Essentials in Under 4 minutes.

I am a teacher so despite my love for make up. I don’t always like to show up to work with a face caked with glitter and bright red lip tint and over-done eye brows. So, I have a general routine that keeps me and all the little kids who have to stare at my face all day, happy.

Also you guys, I am a mom of two kids and my one and only job in the morning is to get them out of bed, changed, fed, new diaper, new socks, breakfast, hair combed, teeth brushed, in the car, buckled in, and perhaps clean up whoever dumped their milk down the back of my pants. That’s it, that’s all. The reality is, I just do not have time to sit in the bathroom and stare at my contour job and make my nose straight. I wish I did, but I don’t. So for those of you who know what I am talking about, this one is for you! It is my 4 makeup essentials and in under 4 minutes.

Here is how I squeeze in my makeup routine in under 4 minutes. And feel good about it. Here are the things you will need and some links to the same or similar products.

1.) All-Over Foundation

This is the most vital part to any makeup routine. I am sorry, but all it takes is one wrong shade and you’ve lost the battle with natural light. And let’s be honest, no one wants to live in a cave just so their face matches their neck.

For me, my job is teaching so I don’t need much going on. I prefer a lighter weight foundation throughout the week. Something that stays extremely well and something that doesn’t make me feel like my face will melt off if I step outside. Blend your all-over foundation in really well, you want it to become one with your face.

2.) Under Eye Foundation

This is it’s own category for the simple fact that you can just do this step and be A-OKAY. Somedays if I feel like giving my skin a break, I will just go for this step and skip step 1. This step also doesn’t take quite the same blending technique as all over foundation. I find just patting it in with the pad of my finger or a small triangle pad, does the trick. Don’t blend, blot.

3.) Eye Shadow

This step is totally your call. I enjoy a little natural tone or some shimmer when I am dressed in more of a blouse or dark jeans look. But there are days where the t-shirt is out and the light jeans and a nude matte look is all I need. That’s what is great about this quick and easy makeup combo, you don’t need much of anything else. Less is more in this step.

4.) Blush

This time of year (in rainy Seattle at least) is grey and overcast with minimal to no shadows on our skin. When deciding what to do here, go red, rosy, pink. I find going for the brown or bronze tones during the fall or gloomier times of year tends to lead to the burnt marshmallow look. I am sorry, I care too much about you, I won’t let that happen to you. The rosy cheek look is great for the colder times of year and leaves for a more natural appearance.

Under 4 Minutes

I am telling you it is true. If you start with your foundations and then the eye shadow and blush. It’s a solid 3 and a half minutes of makeup. You feel fresh, natural, and ready for the day. I hope you enjoy. Would love to hear your tips and tricks and quick morning routines! Share below! Happy Saturday my friends!

How Stitchfix Saves me Time and Money

So personal.

I have a problem. Clothes. It’s sooooo bad you guys! You know those mornings when you’re running late and suddenly your entire wardrobe literally turns against you. It is that moment when you put on your go-to shirt because you’re in a rush and for some reason it seems to have suddenly shrunk to a size ‘I remember when I was 4’ and your elastic waist line has decided to latch on to every ounce of love handle you ever worked off or ‘passed on the scone’ for. So, you go to the next reasonable option which is – fuck it. Try on every other item of clothing you own and haven’t worn or even considered wearing since the 9th grade – thinking for some reason something from 1999 will have you feeling like Gweneth Paltrow. Don’t forget you’re in a hurry.

So what do you do? Well duh, the next step is, you then begin to throw every meany-head piece of clothing you’ve managed to get in and out of in the last 20 minutes, on the floor. That is what you do and next thing you know, you did it. You officially demolished your bedroom…. But in a hurry, gotta’ run.

And now…crap-o-la, you are pretty much death-sentenced to the next 3 weekends of sifting through clothes you’ll never wear again. The other logical way out is – go to Target or Forever 21, revamp your closet. Okay you guys, If you went this route (haha, it’s like a choose your own destination) it only means you now have more clothes you have to hang up in your closet. Which then means, you will only have more clothes on your floor come the next late, frumpy feeling, kind of day. Annnndddd If you’re like me, that’s nearly every day. Hence why my floor looks like a mosaic master piece of well, clothing.

Unveiling the Fix

This my friends, is why I started Stitch Fix. I recently took to Stitch Fix in an odd attempt to save money. Here’s the deal, my desperate clothing runs were costing me close to $300 dollars a piece. Because I didn’t feel like I had anything or I would be bored of the clothes I just bought and I would go buy some more. It was kind of becoming a vicious cycle.

Stitch Fix is a company that personally styles you and sends you clothes, shoes, and accessories from very specific details you give when setting up your account. You can pick down to favorite colors, patterns, fits, styles, prices, fabric and so much more. Stitch Fix is unique because it caters to all genders and body types, they even have maternity for all my cute pregnant women out there. You can then customize the frequency of your package once a week, month, bi-monthly or others. I chose monthly and then decided I would frequent twice a month.

The beauty of this system is that you don’t have to keep every item that comes with your Stitch Fix. If you only like the shoes and the pants great. Or perhaps you’re on a budget that month. Or maybe you just received a similar blouse as a gift and don’t need it, just ship it back (the shipping label and package is in the box ready for you) within 3 days and they refund you for all the things you didn’t need/want.

The thing Stitch Fix did for me is; in your Fix you will find a very personalized letter from your stylist saying what they’re still working on finding as well as a layout of outfit options for your items. I found I came to value the items just a little bit more because they were picked out by my very own ‘stylist’ for me. This is something that adds a little extra value to the clothes and a step that obviously causes me not only anxiety but a health hazard for a bedroom. I also like the fact that I can kind of pick and chose which things I really like and what I don’t. This saves me money because I have an allotted amount of clothes to pick from and to feel like my closet got a tiny face lift instead of the 10.7 million items of clothing at Forever21 and my closets face being sprung back and looking like Janice Dickenson. Also, I know when I am in my slump that I have one coming soon, this completely erased the temptation for my typical clothing runs.

Shoes to boot.

I can also tell you, as a working Momma this has been a life savor when it comes to creating and having outfits to wear on the fly. I encourage you to try it, just try! You can always return the items or heck even quit getting packages. I always am looking forward to my package. My floor is still a mess though.  Help.

Please share your experience or what you love about Stitch Fix below in the comments. Thanks for reading friends!

The Girl Who Never Gave Up

Indie Hair Society Drying Lounge

Inspirational females. Who comes to mind for you? When I thought of the idea to write an inspirational post to magnify and empower hard working women, there was only one person in mind. She truly encompasses what it means to be a hard working, get your knees dirty, passionate, compassionate, won’t stop for anything, mentor, humanitarian, badass and well, a home grown girly-girl.

Amy is the owner, creator, inventor and hair-stylist extraordinaire of Indie Hair Society located in downtown Everett, Wa. She is beautiful, creative, and someone we should all strive to be like. Amy is currently anticipating the arrival of her beautiful baby girl, who is so entirely lucky to have such an inspirational mother to look up to. So lucky.

When I first reached out for Amy’s services years ago, it was to see if Amy would do my hair due to severe hair envy of my dearest gal pal who also went to Amy. Her work was awesome to a stranger’s eye.  I was equally convinced she would be able to have me looking, feeling, and a styled wardrobe identical to Jillian Hough’s. She is that good.

I soon had my very first appointment and anxiously drove up to this tiny red barn, or was it a mobile home? Actually, to this day, I am still not quite sure what kind of building it was. It stood behind the rural town’s local gas station. Attached to the red bus-like building was a run down barber shop.  Despite the ragged outward appearance, I walked into the salon. The door was open and there was Amy who greeted me with a hug. Inside the salon it was surprisingly chic, welcoming and quaint on the inside. With the never wavering feeling of love in the air.

Throughout the next few  (counseling sessions, free of charge) hair appointments Amy and I spoke, laughed, and cried. I got to really get to know Amy and I grew to see something inside of her. I heard of her dreams and passions to own her own salon. Over the course of time I watched her dreams come true. All due to genuine hard work and well, passion.

She finally found a brilliant space in the city. She had a vision that would scare the shit out of most of us. But not Amy, she took every step and embraced it. She took every new team member and hire and mentored them. She took the negatives and turned them positive. She took her dream and literally made it come to life. I want to honor and bring light to this incredible feat. The feeling of this dream and place is like tasting the best homemade meal that someone made with love. The air and energy and culture of Indie Hair Society is made from all the ingredients needed for success and fulfilment.

Amy’s hustle attitude is not to be mistaken by her insane gift of sincerity and kindness. When you walk through the doors into Amy’s world you feel her kind energy and passionate spirit. That is proven by no matter where her salon may be, a red barn or Rockefeller, you feel at home and you feel valued. Down to the littlest of details, decor, and the Keurig machine, you can’t help but to feel worth something when you’re in Amy’s care.

Coffee anyone?

Indie Hair Society has evolved into something more than a business. It is a symbol and inspiration to so many women like Amy, that you can truly do anything you want to do. She is living her dream not without the hard and long days. But, the hard times and set-backs are all falling into place for Amy

Indie Hair Society is filled with incredibly talented men and women who contribute to the success of Amy’s growing dream and living out their own alongside of her. I encourage you to all go visit Amy and her team at Indie. If not for a truly amazing glam squad experience, but at the least, a whole lot of inspiration and encouragement from a girl who knows what it takes.
